Sonim XP3300 Force Cell Phone Review - The World's Toughest Phone

By

Every year at the world mobile force companies vie to show off the most unique, the most unusal and the most original phones that will be sold that year. For the mobile world conference 2011 there already has been a few of such phones; phones that have captured the attention for some of the right reasons, as well as some of the wrong reasons.

This year one of the phones is Sonims XP3300 Force cell phone or, as I like to call it, the most rugged cell phone to ever - and i mean ever - hit the market.

Just how rugged a cell phone is the XP3300 Force? Well to put things into perspective it has the worlds longest talk time ever. Ever.

How long is the talk time (or, in other words, battery life)?

Sonim XP3300 Force Specifications

You want to know the answer to the question I just asked.  I know you do because, well, I'm still baffled by the answer.

One of the specs of the Sonim Force mobile phone, and the one that has garnered everyones attention is it's battery life.  The XP300 Force has, get this, a battery life of 33.5 days; let me repeat - if the phone is one standby it will last 33.5 DAYS.

Now if that doesn't baffle you then this next spec will - you can talk on the phone for 24 hours straight until it will run out of battery.  Other phones will last maybe an hour of talk time.  But 24 hours of talk time.  The Sonim XP330 is seriously meant for some rugged adventures!

The Force is a GSM device that has EDGE data capability which run on a quad-band network.

With all this mind, the Sonim XP3300 looks to be the toughest, most rugged, and perhaps one of the best phones of 2011.

Sonim Force Features

Now for a phone that is praised for battery life, well, it must not have any desirable features. Right?

Wrong.

The Sonim Force mobile phone has some of the best features of any phone of 2011.

Such as,

  • GPS Navigation
  • Opera Mini Browser
  • 2 Megapixel camera
  • Video Capture

The best features, though, for the Mobile Force are called MRM applications. MRM stands for Mobile Resource Management and the theory behind this is that the Sonim Force will have numerous apps that will all employers to locate, track and manage mobile works; other features will inlcude data collection, reports, fleet tracking and job scheduling.

Sonim XP3300 Review

So just how tough is this cell phone?

my battery, after 3 months only lasts 5 days anymore..

and my screen broke when my little nephew had bitten on it, and has gotten glass in his mouth.. they did replace the screen for free (although the transportation costs were 12$)

I'm not very convinced of the rugedness of this phone.

Oh and some more things:

the gps isn't usefull, as even though i have a fast, unlimited data plan, it isn't fast enough, and keeps recalculating route every few seconds.

the browser has the same problem, speed!

you cannot change the alarm sound.. wel you can, but its always the standard ringtone (known problem from sonim)

there is NO video capture, and although the camera is quite good, the flashlight isn't very good for usage as flash.

After 2 minutes in a pool of 1,8 meter deep, there was water inside the screen, and i couldn't read it for a few days until it had evaporated out of it. It didn't die, but still..

and the rubber becomes matte after you drop it a few times, which is unfortunate..

it does stack up well to knocks and drops, but i do try to avoid it as it does cost 450$.
